As SureWash are members of The Leapfrog Group Partners Advisory Committee (PAC), we had the privilege of hosting an educational webinar which did a deep dive into hand hygiene compliance.
Hand hygiene compliance is a key quality measure for infection prevention and control programs, patient safety, and quality of health services worldwide. It is one of the most simple and effective measures to reduce healthcare associated infections (HAIs). However, compliance rates are as low as 6% – 14% when assessed by both the World Health Organization (WHO) 5 moments and 6-step hand hygiene technique, and as much as 50% of avoidable infections are caused by poor hand hygiene.

This session examines:

  • How we measure hand hygiene compliance.
  • The real-world challenges of hand hygiene.
  • The trends and future developments including the new international standard for hand hygiene.
  • The role technology will play in helping hospitals achieve compliance and the Leapfrog Hand Hygiene standard.

Our speakers include well esteemed Infection Prevention Consultant Connie Steed. For over 40 years, Connie worked in the field of infection prevention and control (IPC). She was the 2020 Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) President and is currently serving on the CDC Personnel Health and Isolation Precautions Work Groups.

Connie is also joined by Gerry Lacey, founder of SureWash. He is currently a Professor of Robotics at Maynooth University, Dublin, Ireland. He is an expert in psychomotor learning and assessing technology in infection control.
