Every day the world’s infection preventionists (IPs) fight to keep our communities safe from infectious threats: a global pandemic, healthcare-associated infections, measles outbreaks, flu season, and so many others. Therefore, International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) aims to shine a light on the infection prevention profession each year.

The Future is Infection Prevention: 50 Years of Infection Prevention

International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) takes place October 16-22, 2022, and is organized by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). Infection prevention is more important than ever in the battle against a global pandemic and to keep the world safe from healthcare-associated infections and outbreaks. Therefore, this year’s theme is The Future is Infection Prevention: 50 Years of Infection Prevention. APIC wants to emphasize the role that individuals can play in the health and safety of their community. They do this by showcasing the science behind infection prevention, the importance of countering mis-information, and to inspire the world’s future IPs to join the fight.

Please join us in encouraging everybody—healthcare personnel, patients, and families—to celebrate the bravery and expertise the infection prevention and control community has shown before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. APIC have created lots of resources for you to use such as sample copy for newsletter articles, fact sheets, social media posts, and activity ideas that are included in the IIPW Toolkit and on the APIC website.
